About me

Hi! I'm Orlando, a -yo software developer from Avezzano, a small city in the center of Italy.

Pretty center-y, if you ask me.

I'm currently living in Viareggio, in the Tuscany region, with my partner Alessandra and our cat Cleo.

What do I do

I'm currently a Software Developer at C-MAP, a Navico Group subsidiary that specializes in recreational marine cartography (we do sea maps, you see). I lead the backend services team, so you'll usually find me debugging some APIs or spinning up some Azure Functions or chanting random arcane curses against databases. (Or all three at the same time.)

Before joining C-MAP, I was an associate researcher at INFN, the Italian Institute for Nuclear Physics. I was part of the PUMA project which aimed to re-use specialized high-energy physics hardware in the context of medical imagery; more specifically, I was the resident software developer and I developed custom drivers and simulators for the abovementioned hardware.

Education

I have a Master's Degree in Computer Science and Networking, obtained in 2020.
This degree course was offered jointly by Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and Università di Pisa and focused mainly on high-performance computing,
network programmability and advanced software engineering. I graduated with full marks with honors (110/110 cum laude).

Since I graduated during the COVID-19 pandemic, the only graduation cap I managed to find was in Animal Crossing.

I also received my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from Università di Pisa.
The course centered on strong theoretical fundamentals of algorithms, programming language syntax and semantics, computer architectures and networks. I graduated with full marks with honors.

Hobbies

In my free time I love playing videogames, from recent blockbusters to old classics. I'm always up to date with the latest technology trends and news... usually by surfing Reddit for an ungodly amount of time each day. (Keeping in touch with tech news is just a side effect of endlessly scrolling cat videos, of course.)

I like listening to a wide array of music genres (except for trap, sorry) and I regularly go to see of all kinds of artists live – my next ones will be Sum 41 and Anastacia ;) I'm also an FC Internazionale Milano supporter and I've been to San Siro regularly.
